From the words of Andrew Woods of Hartford Communities That Care:

This week’s shoutout out goes to Ms.September Chatfield and her son 18 year old Tyrek Marquez, a young man who was shot in the head at the age of seven (7).

We are proud to announce that we nominated Tyrek to take part in the #WeVoteSummit in Los Angeles, California on September 29th, 2018 and he will be delegate at the summit.!!!

You may recall the date, August 10, 2008, when Ezekiel Roberts was killed and six children and teenagers were wounded at the West Indian Day Parade. They included Tyrek Marquez, several other teenagers and Zinia Jackson, who was a 15-month-old girl sitting in a stroller when she was shot in the leg.

Thanks to a dedicated mother, Ms. September Chatfield, and her son Tyrek turned a bad experience into a journey, a campaign against violence. They advocate, support others, sponsor events and they both share their stories, powerful stories of what the journey has been like to turn their pain into stories of healing, and hope

Over the years, we at HCTC have supported this dynamic dual, and most recently, Tyrek joined our Youth Leadership Academy at HCTC.

As member of our Greater Hartford Youth Leadership Academy, we are proud of the leadership, knowledge and insight, Tyrek brings to the team.
